Purpose: The purpose of this lab activity is to practice using a meter stick, a Vernier caliper, and a micrometer, as well as recording
measurements and estimating their uncertainty. In addition, the lab is intended to help practice calculating results using significant digits.
measurements and estimating their uncertainty. In addition, the lab is intended to help practice calculating results using significant digits.
Equipment: The equipment used in the lab will include meter sticks, metric rulers, a vernier caliper, a wood block, and a volumetric cylinder.
Data/Data Analysis: Data and Data Analysis can be found in the picture below.
Conclusion: The purpose of the lab was to gain or regain some familiarity with various tools for measurement. Some human error can be factored in as room size was taken to be 90° corners and measurements can have slight variations from the actual measurements. Also, some error can be factored in the calculations. All around the lab was a successful refresher to the use of certain measurement tools, and after a sanity check the data recovered appears practical, securing the idea that one has a working understanding of data evaluation in the sense of measurement.
